Growing Strong: Becoming the Man God Designed You to Be

First Take

Discover how daily discipline, prayer, and God’s Word help Christian men grow into the strong, faithful leaders our world needs.

Hero Hook:

Every man wants to be strong—but true strength isn’t found in the gym, the office, or the bank. It’s found in the quiet spaces where we let God shape our hearts. Spiritual growth isn’t automatic; it’s intentional. And when Christian men grow in grace, their families, workplaces, and communities grow stronger too.

Main Event

1. The Call to Grow

Spiritual growth isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress. The Christian life is a lifelong journey of being transformed into the image of Christ. The Apostle Peter put it plainly:

“Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” — 2 Peter 3:18 (NLT)

Growth means moving beyond comfort zones. It’s showing up for prayer when you’re tired. It’s choosing forgiveness when your pride wants revenge. It’s opening the Bible when scrolling would be easier. Growth requires daily, humble surrender.

2. The Root of True Growth

Jesus described Himself as the vine, and we are the branches (John 15:5). The secret to growth is staying connected to Him. When we drift from God—through busyness, distraction, or sin—we begin to wither. But when we remain in Him, spiritual fruit begins to blossom.

Prayer, Scripture, worship, and fellowship are not religious checkboxes—they’re lifelines. They keep us rooted and refreshed in God’s presence.

3. The Habits That Shape the Heart

Here are simple, powerful rhythms that keep your spiritual life alive:

  1. Start your day with the Word. Even ten minutes with Scripture sets your direction for the day.
  2. Talk to God before you talk to people. Begin each morning with a brief prayer: “Lord, guide my words, thoughts, and actions today.”
  3. Find a brother for accountability. Growth happens faster in community.
  4. End your day in gratitude. Reflect on where you saw God’s hand that day and thank Him for His faithfulness.
  5. Serve someone intentionally. Growth accelerates when you pour into others.

4. When Growth Feels Slow

Every man experiences seasons where spiritual growth feels stagnant. Don’t mistake silence for absence—God is still at work. Like a tree in winter, growth may be unseen, but roots are deepening.

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished.” — Philippians 1:6 (NLT)

God doesn’t rush the process. He refines, strengthens, and prepares you for greater purpose.

“Try This This Week”

  • Set aside 10 minutes daily for Scripture and silence—no phone, no rush.
  • Call or text a brother in Christ to check in and pray together.
  • Write down one area where you want to grow spiritually, and ask God to guide that process.

Short Prayer

Lord, help me grow deeper roots in You. Shape my heart, strengthen my faith, and let my life reflect Your character. Teach me to walk daily in grace and obedience. In Jesus’ name, amen.
